Aravind Adiga: The White Tiger (2008)
This novel is more interesting that it lets on, but it took me a while to get over my initial irritation over the protagonist’s many naive and ”funny” comments and observations. Nevertheless, there’s a core of shrewd critisicm of Indian society and some good storytelling. But I won’t call it brilliant, and I do understand the controvercy when the novel, Adigas’ debut, was awarded the Booker Prize in 2008.
